Aliens Among Us

The Galapagos Islands are being invaded by a strange alien species, unlike anything ever seen there before. These foreign colonizers bring mayhem and destruction in their wake to this former paradise. But who are these strange intruders?

This short, satirical film lampoons the clichéd conventions of both the traditional nature documentary and science-fiction alien film genres, while using the Galapagos to call attention to the perils that unsustainable human development brings to delicate ecosystems worldwide.

The Kichwa Añangu Community & Napo Wildlife Center

As neighboring Kichwa communities lost their ancestral lands, language, and culture to modern pressures and development, the Añangu community engaged in a bold ecotourism project with the joint goals of maintaining their communal structure and culture, while also protecting their corner of the Amazon's natural resources and wildlife.

This video offers a glimpse of how the Añangu created the Napo Wildlife Center, and in the process achieved an ecological balance which affords community members with opportunities for education, easy access to healthcare, and dignified employment in an environment where their customs and language can thrive.

The Napo Wildlife Center is the ultimate alternative luxury eco-hotel in Amazonian Ecuador. This ecotourism project includes the conservation of approximately 82 square miles of pristine Amazon rain forest within the Yasunì National Park - an important UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador. The lodge is located by the Añangucocha lake, within the unique ancestral territory of the Añangu Kichwa  Community. The Añangu own and operate the resort, reinvesting the profits into the community.

Creationists in the Galapagos
(A/V Slide Show)

Here on the Galapagos Islands, it's not only the wildlife that display signs of evolution.

Street signs and murals reflect the theory's importance to the local history and culture, while signs at tourist shops show some people's eagerness to commodify it.

But new signs are emerging, as well. Signs that Creationism is gaining a foothold in the intellectual birthplace of Darwinism.
