Salieu Suso comes from an ancient line of Mandinka jali  - the traditional musicians, entertainers, and oral historians of West Africa. Now, he performs his timeless songs within the frenetic tunnels of the NYC subway system, and serves as a guardian of the culture for the Gambian expats making new lives in this strange new city.

FRONTLINE and the Investigative Reporting Workshop (IRW) explore the secretive world of immigration detention and examine the Obama administration's controversial get-tough immigration policy. As a Graduate Assistant at IRW, I helped conduct research for this documentary.
